I Gave Up Streaming for DirecTV, and I’m Thrilled With It.

Confession time: There was a brief moment where I too was hooked on streaming. So much so that I canceled my beloved DirecTV because I thought it would save me money.

Then I found out three things:

  1. By the time I had enough streaming to cover my entertainment needs, I wasn’t saving much at all. In fact, for awhile, I was spending more. I would say “it’s only $9.99 a month”, not realizing that once you say that 3 or 4 times, you’re kind of spending a lot.
  2. If you want choices, streaming is nowhere near as good as DirecTV. Even with the five different streaming services I had, I still couldn’t match DirecTV’s programming offerings.
  3. Streaming quality / reliability isn’t all that good either. I’d say 50% of everything I watched had one glitch or another. DirecTV is much more reliable.

I Went Back, Because It’s All Here – Plus the NFL

Like I mentioned, I had 5 (five!) streaming services. Plus, seasonal subscriptions for sports. And at the end of the day, I wasn’t saving a dime, and had less programming.

I wanted to turn on my TV and just have what I wanted, when I wanted it. DirecTV had exactly that, and with their DVR’s, app, and on-demand offerings, I can watch just about anything, anywhere, on any device. So after thinking about it, and missing my NFL Sunday Ticket, I went back.

Look, I’ll admit that some streaming is great. In fact, I ended up keeping Netflix, because I feel it’s the perfect complement to DirecTV. But I dropped everything else, and I’m thrilled about it.
